These grants will provide funding for equipment and supplies that meet health and safety protocols while promoting physical, cognitive, and social development. By enhancing playgrounds, providers can support the developmental standards across domains and provide a safe and engaging space for children to learn and play. Center-based providers may apply for grants of up to $20,000 per playground, to be at most $40,000 per provider. Family Child Care Homes may apply for up to $10,000.

Allowable expenses for this grant include, but are not limited to:  

  • Active play/gross motor play equipment (ex., climbers, play systems, slides, riding toys, storage of outdoor play materials, etc…) 
  • Outdoor classroom materials (ex., water tables, blocks, easels, etc…)  
  • Outdoor Safety Equipment (ex., sunshades, water misters, hose-connected portable handwashing station, mulch & mulch borders, safety surfaces, etc…) 
  • Professional Installation by vendor or licensed professional 

Disallowable Expenses include, but are not limited to: 

  • Any expenditures that require construction or permits 
  • Video surveillance 
  • Fences

The application deadline is March 1, 2024, or until funding is exhausted. Purchases must be made October 1, 2023 or later. All funds must spent, and documentation must be submitted by April 30, 2024. Applications can be submitted, and any questions can be directed to playgroundgrant@elcpinellas.org
